Man in Canadian job scam sentenced, again
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A conman was on Monday slapped with a three-year prison sentence for a Canadian job scam he operated.
Everton Boothe, who is currently serving three years for a similar offence, was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to three counts of obtaining money by means of false pretence.
He was hit with his first three-year sentence last year.
The court heard that Boothe, purporting to be an employee of the Ministry of Labour, swindled $32,000, $28,000 and $24,000 from three complainants, whom he promised jobs in Canada.
The complainants reported the matter to the police after the jobs were not forthcoming and Boothe was arrested and charged.
He was sentenced by Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey.
